“Untitled, 2003” was initiated in 2002 when Andrea Fraser approached Friedrich Petzel Gallery to arrange a commission with a private collector on her behalf. The requirements for the commission were to include a sexual encounter between Fraser and a collector, which would be recorded on videotape, with the first exemplar of the edition going to the participating collector.

Amateur photographs of nudes are taken from the internet and obscured with the application of “dots” that are made with punchhole irons using the colours and structures from the original image. The process of manipulation remains visible on the image plane with dots and circles forming a recognizable silhouette of the vanished nude, undermining the original intention of the images through a simple process of interference.
