»Cosmos«, 2001. Two hundred empty video boxes are arranged on 40 linear metres of shelving. The jackets, borrowing from a very imaginary film genre, are all different, but each film is invariably titled Cosmos and made by Boris Achour. Each credit associates the most heterogeneous names: actors, artists, writers, philosophers, as well as close friends of Boris Achour. The title borrows that of a Witold Gombrowicz novel, self-described as “an attempt to organize chaos”. The piece is an adaptation of a novel in the form of a sculpture.
»Dictionary of Imaginary Places« 2006, is a site specific intervention at Ljubljana international airport. During the current expansion of the airport terminal the six line messaging service of the departure board has been modified to a twelve line, and a test program is being run every night to establish the capabilities of the old mechanical messaging service. In order not to confuse the remaining night time passengers with recognizable destinations, the developed software was set to automatically upload names from A. Manguel’s and G. Guadalupi’s Dictionary of Imaginary places which cites over 1.200 entries of imaginary cities, islands, countries and continents restricted to: no heavens or hells, no places in the future, none outside the planet Earth and no pseudonymous places. »Haul« (2005) by Katrin Sigurdardottir is made up of 11 small transport crates, that when installed together, display a continuous imaginary landscape. They are individual pieces as well as parts of a larger sculpture. As they find homes in dispersed locations, their exteriors document their travel with transit labels and other imprints.
