Went here for the Second Saturday Art Walk, especially after reading about the Wynwood Art Lounge at this venue. The gallery had a gritty industial vibe with the unpolished, gray-painted concrete floors. One of the paintings was my favorite - Fidel with devil horns ;)

The other installation - a video kaleidoscope - set the mood for the lounge in the patio area behind the gallery. "Faster, Better, Stronger" set the mood for the evening as I met up with friends. There were a few couches in the middle of the outdoors dance floor.  A local DJ spun techno dance standards. 42 Below placed four corner bars at the corners of the dance area - The Four Elements, if you will. My favorite cocktail was the Beekeeper, in which you can actually taste the honey. It was a perfect social lubricant to fist-pump the muggy night away!

This is a good space. I went during the Art Walk and they had a Quisqueya Henriquez show will collages and prints: op-art lenticular effects, shimmery pixelated screen shots, digital renders of architectural fragments, sticky Rorschach-test paintings laid on top of some of the prints. She is taking some interesting ideas that other artists have explored in greater depth and putting them together in her own way. This isn't incredibly exciting but, honestly, that's what most art is and at least Quisqueya Henriquez has a nose for what's relevant.

Tip: Don't even look at the press releases. The pretention is over-the-top. You will gag.

The David Castillo Gallery is Miami's best art gallery. Period.

The level of discourse, the strength of the work, and the thematic exhibitions set the bar for Miami galleries, and they just can't compete. It all comes down to David Castillo's great taste (and it doesn't hurt that he went to Yale to study art history and has an amazing knowledge-base). The gallery artists are inspired: Kate Gilmore, Xaviera Simmons and Jillian Mayer are my stand-out favorites, and recent shows featuring outside artists have been incredibly strong.

The gallery booth at this year's Art Basel Miami Beach was amazing, and it's great to see someone other than Fred Snitzer represent Miami in the world's most important contemporary art fair.

Very cool gallery. They have Espitia on display and I am drawn to his art. I like the maze-like layout better than some other galleries of just a big square room.
